Ephesus

Acropolis of ancient Pergamum and Asclepion medical center

To see and expereince what a high city—acropolis—actually is, visit the well preserved and excavated mountain top acropolis of ancient Pergamum. It was the former capital of Western Asia Minor before Ephesus -pre-dating the Roman period-. It is an impressive site  with its Acropolis perched atop a mountain and commanding views of the fertile plains across the landscape. The nearby medical center, ancient Asclepion provides insight into early practices.

Your day will start your exploration with a cable car ride to the mountain top where you will see the famous library, the third most important in the ancient world, the steepest Greek theatre in the world, dramatic Temple of Trajan, Altar of Zeus (a.k.a. Throne of Satan according to Revelation 2:13), Upper Agora, Fortification walls and the arsenals.

While in Asclepion you will be surprised at learning about the sophistication of non-invasive medical therapies, see the Sacred Way, Temple of Asclepius, Sacred Fountain, tunnels and subterranean passage used for purification and healing rites, as well as treatment rooms and healing pools.

Your day concludes with a visit at the Red Basilica -formerly the Temple of Serapis- which was one of the Seven Churches of Revelation (Revelation 2:12-17).
