The Wine Country: Ode to Dionysos

Asia Minor was the natural corridor for the grape’s spread westward – the original grape, vitis vinifera sylvestris originated at the fringes of Eastern Asia Minor and Caucasus-.

For a currently lesser-known side of Aegean coastline, take a leisurely trip to the wine country and taste wines made from the ancient varieties, the ancestors of today’s modern grapes.

You will enjoy the pleasant company of a wine connoisseur guide, chat about the wine culture, why and how the ancient Dionysiac Festivals caused the birth of classical drama—theatre—, how the ancient wine was shipped out from Asia Minor to islands in the Aegean and further west.

You can choose between the wineries that are south of Ephesus, or travel a bit further for those in Urla.
