Istanbul

Oriental Bazaars - Trade and Commercial life in the Ottoman Empire

Available as a half or full day experience.

The economy makes an empire.

This tour explores the vibrant commercial foundation of the Ottoman world—still alive in Istanbul’s bustling bazaars today.
Your experience will go beyond the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market, and extend to the historic market quarter.

You will explore bazaars, markets, caravanserais (historic inns), and workshops—most of which have been continuously in business for centuries—and understand the complex social system and pillars that carried the Ottoman Empire.

The tour starts with the perimeter of the famous Grand Bazaar, then meanders through the glitzy high rent streets and tiny nooks and crannies where you’ll see the workshops where gold is melted on fire, artisans engrave silver by hand, and be in awe at the brokers exchanging thousands of dollars at the poor men's Stock Market.  The Spice Market will evoke all your senses, you will not only see, but also taste and sample the local delicacies.
