Traditional Turkish Archery Masterclass

Available as a half or full day experience.

Turks and their Central Asian cousins blazed the battlefields for about a thousand years, roughly from 500s to 1500s. One particular reason for their legendary success was their exceptional mastery of both ground and mounted archery, unusual bows and arrows.

A national sport, Turkish Traditional Archery is in the UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, due to its deep philosophy, spiritual practice, artistry, and historical pride, reasons beyond simply shooting arrows.

Your day begins with a visit to the small Archery Museum where you will learn different types of bows and arrows. Next, you will visit with a master craftsman to see him in action, building a composite bow made with wood, bufallo horn and Achilles tendons, silk and fish glue. You will learn why they shoot twice as far as their European counterparts. Your day ends at a traditional practice range, with a shooting exercise using traditional bows and arrows.

Walking: easy.
