Istanbul

Introduction to Istanbul's Old Town: Walking tour of Istanbul's historical core

Available as a half or full day experience.

The perfect plan if you have just one day to discover Istanbul.

You will get an overview of Istanbul, visit the major highlights, and get a sense of local life and customs.

Your experience begins with a brief orientation. Then, you will explore the heart of the Old Town, including the ancient Hippodrome, interior visits to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Underground Cistern.

In the afternoon, your experience continues with a leisurely back-streets walk from the Grand Bazaar to the Spice Market.
The Grand Bazaar and the surrounding district have been the heart of commerce in the city through centuries. This tour takes you to behind the scenes of the historic market quarter, unknown to travelers.

We take the colorful winding cobblestone streets to the Spice Market. The market has the ambience of a true oriental bazaar. It was originally built to promote spice trade, and it still serves essentially the same purpose.

Finally, your day ends with a scenic walk on the Galata Bridge on the Golden Horn, offering panoramic views over the Bosphorus.

Walking: easy to moderate

  • You will meet your guide at your hotel or at a location you prefer.
  • Although it covers the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Market, this is not a shopping tour. You will see workshops where gold is melted on fire, how artisans engrave silver, and the brokers that exchange thousands of dollars at the poor men's Stock Market.
  • The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays.
  • Mosques in the Old Town are closed until the conclusion of midday prayer on Fridays.
  • The Spice Market and the Grand Bazaar are closed on religious holidays.
