day 1 - Istanbul --- Welcome get together. Dinner will follow the tour introduction.
day 2 - Adatepe --- Drive to Gallipoli to visit WW1 war fields and memorials. After we cross the Dardanelles, we will continue on to Troy, site of the Trojan War in Homer's epic, the Illiad.
day 3 - Adatepe --- We will spend the day in Adatepe, a typical village of the north Aegean. We will take time to explore the village and also visit an old olive oil plant to learn about olive pressing with ancient methods.
day 4 - Sirince --- Drive to Pergamon. The ruins of this spectacular acropolis is a thousand feet above the contemporary town, and commands an extraordinary view in all directions. Our tour includes Aesclepion, ancient medical center dedicated to god Apollo.
day 5 - Sirince --- Today we’ll be walking the marble
streets of ancient Ephesus, capital city of the Asian
Province. Houses of the wealthy families of Roman
Ephesus were recently restored, and are now open to public
visit. We will also visit the local Museum of Archeology to see the rare findings from the site.
day 6 - Bodrum --- Drive to Bodrum. En route, we will visit Didyma, to see the all solid marble Temple of Apollo. The temple is in an excellent state of preservation. In the ancient city of Priene, we will observe clever city planning techniques put into practice.
day 7 - Bodrum --- The Castle of St. Peter was built in early 1400s as a crusader stronghold. Today, it houses the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, one of the best museums of its kind; an exciting setting, and an outstanding exhibition of artifacts, as a result of thousands of dives. Later in the day we’ll visit the ruins of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one the wonders of the ancient world.
day 8 - Fethiye --- On our way to Fethiye, we will visit Dalyan and the Carretta Carretta beach where the giant loggerhead turtles lay their eggs.
day 9 - Fethiye --- We will visit the rock cut tombs of the Lycian kings, and continue on to Kayakoy and Xantos. Unesco has announced this leading city of the Lycian civilization as one of the top 100 heritages of the world. In history, Xantos is known for its epic resistance against the Persian invaders.
day 10 - Istanbul --- Back to Istanbul. Our tour starts with Topkapi, administrative palace for the Ottoman dynasty for over 400 years. The tour includes the Harem, private apartments of the royal family. The Blue Mosque is known for its outstanding 17. century tiles. Next stop is the Hippodrome, center of political action in the capital city of the Byzantine Empire. Orientation and free time in the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market.
day 11 - Istanbul --- Day starts with a cruise up the Bosphorus, the strait that divides the two continents. Back to town to visit St. Savior in Chora, a spectacular church complex of the late Byzantine era. We will continue on to Hagia Sophia, masterpiece of Byzantine art and architecture. Our farewell dinner will conclude the day.
day 12 - Tour is over after breakfast.
